Clara started singing at an early age. Quite musical as a child, she would use her mother’s hairdressing brushes as microphones. She would dance and sing around the house all the time. Young Talent Time and Safeway New Faces were her favourite programs to watch.
In her teens, Clara realized her real love of music and in particular singing. Clara joined the local Parish music group and sang in Church most weeks and at various Parish events. She was asked to sing at a wedding ceremony for a high school friend and at first, she declined. Her friend wasn’t taking “no” for an answer and convinced Clara to perform at her wedding Ceremony. Clara admits that if it hadn’t been for her friend’s persistence in getting her to perform, she may never have experienced this incredible journey.
In later years, Clara then joined a reception band and subsequently met and married her husband Carlo, who at the time was a member of her band.
Clara was then introduced to floor shows. These were quite popular in the late nineties, and many events requested floor shows.
In 2000 Clara sang an original song and was awarded the first prize at the Festival of Song held at Crown Casino Melbourne.
In 2001 Clara then formed a trio called ‘Body & Soul’ and the popularity of the trio saw them performing at major events, including corporate functions.
Some venues included The Hilton, The RACV Club, The Langham, Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, and Crown Casino Melbourne, and many more.
After a wonderful musical journey of 25 years, Clara then decided to take a different direction.
Having sung also in the funeral industry, in 2014 Clara and her business partner launched Music For Funerals.
Clara believes that music, even at a time of grief, can be soothing and can help give families a wonderful send-off for their loved ones.
Recently, Clara has performed in production shows created by musician and entertainer John St. Peeters, who together with his team, has also worked on Clara’s first album.
In the last 30 years, Clara Abate’s voice has been heard by over 1 million people.
And there’s never been a recording of Clara for people to take her home to listen to.
Until now…
